Unable to speak after a long illness, 11-year-old Emmeline joins her grandmother aboard Permenant Wants, a floating bookshop that will sail from port to port all summer long. Over the course of the summer, Emmeline travels to places, both real and imaginary, that astonish and captivate her, and her adventures show her wonders that help her unlock her own self.
